The new roommate moved in today. :-)
Ok, it’s not a human being, but a cute Mini PC sporting an N150 processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB NVME.
I’ve been looking for a new Daily Driver to replace my M75s Gen 2. Don’t get me wrong, the Lenovo is a very nice machine, but I found myself shutting it down quite often when I was not using it, thinking it might draw too much power while idling.
A few days ago I stumbled upon an ad for a BMAX B4Turbo with a price tag of only EUR 122. I just couldn’t resist.
So when it arrived today, the first thing I did was wipe Windows 11 from the drive and install Linux Mint.
The installation finished without problems, but then I discovered that there was no sound via HDMI. Or to be precise, not sound at all. A quick search on the web showed that this is a known problem with the chip set not being recognized by the kernel.
Fortunately, the first alternative distro I tried solved the issue. MX Linux to the rescue.
I use Mint on all my other machines, but I guess I’m still young enough to learn some new tricks. :-)
Overall, the N150 feels snappy enough for all my everyday tasks and the power consumption is less than a third of what the M75s requires.
